I'm not really a new crafter but I am a stuck in the rut crafter- what I do I do well, but my crafting expertise doesn't go much further than die cutting and using embossing folders. For this reason, I have vowed to take time this year to learn, and use, some new techniques.
This week, I was trying to find ideas for embellishing a male Valentine card order and decided to have a go at using gilding flakes to decorate some hearts. I was lucky enough to see the very inspirational Sue Wilson demonstrate this technique in person last year, so I had some idea what to do.
As I'd seen others do, I emptied some of my flakes into a tupperware container. I used Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter glue to cover my hearts, then dipped them into the flakes. Finally I removed the excess with a rub it scrub it pad.
What I wasn't prepared for was the mess I got in! Sue Wilson doesn't ever seem to end up with sticky fingers covered in gilding flakes. But I perservered and in the end was really pleased with the result and the finished card.
Products used:
Creative Expressions: Gilding Flakes Summer Meadow, Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter Glue, Foundation card in Milk White.
Ranger Inkssentials Rub-it Scrub-it pad
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Kraft Resist 12"x12" paper stack
Docrafts Victorian Valentine A5 paper pack
X Cut Heart die
Black cardstock
Collal All Purpose Glue and Create and Craft foam pads
It is certainly worth the mess, time and effort. A masculine card that makes the mass produced pink mush cards pale in comparison.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Male cards are often difficult to design but I enjoy making them x
