Bohemian Butterfly Card (with gilded butterflies)

A few weeks ago, I won some Trimcraft Bohemian collection goodies.  It is such a pretty collection, with butterflies, birds, flowers and stags and a lovely colour palette too.

One of my favourite items in the collection are the wooden shapes. I chose to use butterfly shapes for this card. Although the shapes look great left as they are, I wanted this card to have a special feel, so chose to use gilding flakes to decorate them. I found that the adhesive on the back of the shapes was ideal for attaching the gilding flakes.

I also took the chance to use my Spectrum Noir pens on this card, stamping both the stag image and some small butterflies around it.

Full instructions for this card are available on my Trimcraft gallery.

Gilded hearts

I'm not really a new crafter but I am a stuck in the rut crafter- what I do I do well, but my crafting expertise doesn't go much further than die cutting and using embossing folders. For this reason, I have vowed to take time this year to learn, and use, some new techniques.
This week, I was trying to find ideas for embellishing a male Valentine card order and decided to have a go at using gilding flakes to decorate some hearts. I was lucky enough to see the very inspirational Sue Wilson demonstrate this technique in person last year, so I had some idea what to do.
As I'd seen others do, I emptied some of my flakes into a tupperware container. I used Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter glue to cover my hearts, then dipped them into the flakes. Finally I removed the excess with a rub it scrub it pad.
What I wasn't prepared for was the mess I got in! Sue Wilson doesn't ever seem to end up with sticky fingers covered in gilding flakes. But I perservered and in the end was really pleased with the result and the finished card.
