Roald Dahl crafting

Last year I started this blog with good intentions, but somehow time slipped away and I forgot about writing posts. Recently though, I've begun to share some of my crafting projects on Facebook and Twitter so I felt it was time to return to my blog.
A few months ago, Docrafts announced the imminent arrival of a Roald Dahl paper crafting collection. I can barely describe my feelings of excitement- I grew up with Roald Dahl books, from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to The BFG, and now share them with my children. To be able to craft with Quentin Blake's images seemed incredibly special.
The collection was first released at the beginning of July, although at first only elements were available. My first purchase was the Stationery set, which contains A5 papers, decoupage sheets, ribbon, alphabet stickers and some A6 cards and envelopes. You could very easily only buy this and produce some fantastic cards. Inspiration came quickly and my first card was this Charlie and the  Chocolate Factory card, made by simply layering papers and the die cut images and sentiments.

I waited, not so patiently, for the rest of the collection, realising it would be perfect for teachers' cards and gifts. Just in time I got hold of  the Ultimate A4 Die Cut and Paper kit, as well as some extra ribbon and bows, so that I could make gift boxes for my son's amazing teacher and TA. We bought some cheap papier-mâché boxes from The Range, painted them with a PVA and water 50:50 mix and followed that with two coats of gold poster paint. I chose to use Chocolate Factory and BFG images to decorate the top of the boxes, choosing some quotes which I thought were very appropriate. The papers were adhered using decopatch glue and I used Pinflair glue for the smaller elements. Finally I attached a ribbon and bow to the bottom half of the box, using red ultra sticky tape.

I loved the final results and so did the teachers. This whole range is so fantastic, I'll be using it again and again.
